Recently, it was brought to my attention after a small fish got sucked in the feeder pipe of the raw water pump, that the raw water plumbing was not right.

After recovering from the shock of no raw water coming out of the exhaust pipe, a mate and I set about to correct this problem. The issue was raw water coming in from the engine seacock and going straight to the intake of the raw water pump without going through the filter first. After doing some boat yoga working from behind and in front of the engine, we had the pipe going from the seacock to the filter, the filtered water then going to the raw water pump and with a small hose connection for the water to circulate to the heat exchanger and then out of the exhaust pipe.

I can now turn the engine on with confidence and motor knowing that the raw water pump will no longer get blocked by a fish.
